An Advent of Bellamy

Peter Bellamy was one of the foremost singers of the English Folk Revival.

First known as a member of The Young Tradition then as a soloist of his own right, he recorded over 20 albums in the 25 years he was active on the folk scene - and he was absolutely marvelous. His choice of repertoire and delivery of material was always steller, though it did require you to get past his distinctive style (he called himself “Boring, Bleating Old Traddy”), but it was always worth doing so.

This calendar is a tribute to him, and has been something I've wanted to do for a while but never really got around to. Finally, thanks to a charity event put on in 2024 I've got around to doing so.

Patrick Rose

Patrick Rose is a singer, guitarist and caller based in Sheffield. Known on the Sheffield scene as a clear and strong singer, he's been singing for as long as he can remember.

First moving to Sheffield in 2010 for university, his lecturer invited him to join one of the local Sheffield Carol sings. Blown away by the style of singing, he began to seek out more of the infamous Sheffield folk scene.

Since then, he's released 4 albums of music, ranging from self-penned songs and instrumentals to traditional ballads. His most recent release was a collection of unaccompanied songs recorded over the COVID-19 pandemic called At Home

Currently, his main project is singing and playing guitar for the Ceilidh Band Bellamira

Thanks

This project couldn't have happened without the support of various people

  • Mina Nielson, for engineering, mixing and mastering all the songs. It was an utter delight to work with her on a non-Bellamira project, even if this idea of mine to do 25 songs was somewhat mad.
  • Reinhard Zierke, for running the font of all knowledge that is Mainly Norfolk. Mainly Norfolk having quotes from the liner notes for albums I don't own physical copies of made researching this project infinitely easier.
  • John, Ed Wynn and Chris Wilson, for proof-reading my research and suggesting changes.
